Opticrom Allergy Eye Drops contain sodium cromoglicate 2% and are used to relieve and prevent symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis, including:

They work by stabilising mast cells in the eye and preventing the release of histamine and other chemicals that trigger allergic reactions.

The usual dose for adults and children is:

1–2 drops in each eye
4 times daily

If you use the preserved bottle version containing benzalkonium chloride, soft contact lenses should not be worn during treatment because the preservative can be absorbed by the lenses and irritate the eye. Preservative-free single-dose versions may be more suitable for contact lens wearers.

Common side effects are usually mild and temporary:

Stinging or burning sensation
Mild eye irritation
Temporary blurred vision
Watery eyes

Can Opticrom cause blurred vision?
Yes. Temporary blurred vision may occur immediately after instilling the drops. Do not drive or operate machinery until your vision is clear.

Yes. Sodium cromoglicate can be used prophylactically (preventatively). Starting treatment before exposure to known allergens, such as pollen season, may help reduce symptoms.

Discard multi-dose bottles 4 weeks after opening.
Single-dose units should be used immediately after opening.

Use the drops as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your normal schedule. Do not use extra drops to make up for a missed dose
