• What is Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream used for?

Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream is used to treat athlete's foot with associated inflammation and itching. It contains clotrimazole 1%, which treats the fungal infection, and hydrocortisone 1%, which helps reduce redness, swelling and irritation.

  • How does Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream work?

The cream contains two active ingredients:

    • Clotrimazole – an antifungal that kills the fungi causing the infection.
    • Hydrocortisone – a mild corticosteroid that reduces inflammation, itching and discomfort

Together, they help relieve symptoms while treating the underlying fungal infection.

  • How should I use Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream?

Wash and thoroughly dry the affected area before applying a thin layer of cream twice daily. Gently rub it into the skin and wash your hands after application unless treating your hands.

  • How long should I use Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream?

Use the cream for no longer than 7 days. If further antifungal treatment is needed after this, continue with a clotrimazole-only cream, such as Canesten Cream, as advised by your pharmacist or doctor.

  • Can I use Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream for all fungal skin infections?

No. This product is intended for athlete's foot with inflammation. It should not be used for nail infections, scalp infections or other fungal infections unless recommended by a healthcare professional.

  • Who can use Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream?

The cream is suitable for adults and children aged 10 years and over. It should not be used in younger children unless directed by a doctor.

  • Are there any side effects?

Some people may experience mild burning, stinging, redness or irritation at the application site. Stop using the cream and seek medical advice if you develop severe irritation, an allergic reaction or if your symptoms worsen.

  • Can I use Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?

If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine. Avoid applying the cream to the breast area if breastfeeding.

  • When should I see a doctor?

Consult your GP if your symptoms do not improve after 7 days, if the infection spreads or becomes worse, or if you are unsure whether your condition is caused by a fungal infection.

  • How should I store Canesten Hydrocortisone Cream?

Store the cream below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Keep the tube tightly closed, out of the sight and reach of children, and do not use it after the expiry date printed on the packaging.
